I have recently taken up trying to eat healthier and make better choices. In Feburary of 2011, I had a Pulmonary Embolism. This occured just five days after my daughter was born. The attack has given me a wake up call about being healthy. The Pulmonary Embolism didn't occure because of something I really did wrong. I have never been the type of person to down an entire bucket of chicken or anything; and nor do I, or have I ever, smoke. So, something of this magnitude came as a suprise. Doctors have told me that a Pulmonary Embolism is possible after pregnany, however it is rare. I have also been told that my mortality rate was only fifty percent! This is why I now have a new leash on life.
Since the attack, I have started questioning my health. When grocery shopping I actually read the nutritional facts. I am trying healthier options over non-healthy ones. Example, a Snickers bar and bag of apple crisps lay next to each other on the counter. Before it depended on my mood. Now, I go for the apple crisps. I will admit that I have one final Achille's heel. I am addicted to Dr. Pepper. I am not bad mouthing the soda industry, anything is good in moderation. I just happen to expand the meaning of moderation a bit. Ok, I'll admit it I'm about a 6 pack a day easily. I'd like to get down to one or two, but that's a work in progress.
I want to be healthy not only for me, but also my daughter. I want to show her, through example, how she should eat and exercise. the exercise part is a work in progress too. These blog entries are about how I am focusing on and attempting to improve my overall health. Remember, I am not in the medical field. This is only my experiences. Please, talk to your doctor, as I have done with mine, before you make any changes. Note: If you think you should ask your doc, you're probably right! They didn't go through 12+ years of school for nothing! :)
